Maya Avant (formerly Forrester, born Myron Avant II) is a fictional character on The Bold and the Beautiful. She was portrayed by Karla Mosley from 2013 to 2019.
Biography[]
Maya is the first child of Julius Avant and Vivienne Avant. She was an aspiring actress/singer from the Midwest who, years ago, came to Los Angeles to pursue a career in show business. Maya had a daughter she gave up for adoption when she was convicted for a crime she didn't commit. Dayzee Leigh, who works with the less fortunate on Skid Row (and lived there herself), worked to help place Maya's baby with a good family.
In 2013, Maya was released from prison and tracked down Dayzee, demanding her baby back. Dayzee, who had become part of the prestigious Forrester fashion dynasty by marrying Marcus Forrester, tried to stall Maya, who became increasingly insistent. Dayzee did some digging and was forced to tell Maya that her daughter, along with her daughter's adoptive family, died in a car wreck. Maya was stunned, but seemed to find peace when she visited her daughter's extended family, realizing that Dayzee had done right by her baby.
Romance with Rick[]
Offered the chance to sing open mic at Dayzee's coffee house, Maya attracted the attention of Marcus' cousin, Rick Forrester, who was volunteering at Dayzee's. Maya mistook Rick for one of the waiters, even giving Rick a hefty tip thinking he was less fortunate. Maya enjoyed getting to know Rick, who helped her move into an apartment above Dayzee's and slept on her couch when he locked his keys in his car. Maya witnessed an argument between Rick and his socialite girlfriend, Caroline Spencer II, and could see Rick was unhappy.
Rick took Maya window shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, where they shared their first kiss. Maya thrilled as she tried on fancy dresses at a Forrester Creations boutique. But when a sales clerk outed Rick as a Forrester, Maya felt played, and she stormed out. Later, Maya accepted a date with Marcus' adoptive brother, Carter Walton, who took her to a dinner party at the Forrester mansion. Maya was uncomfortable when Rick entered with jealous Caroline, who made sure Maya saw Rick kissing her. Carter asked Maya out again, but Maya, who had come to forgive Rick for his deception, gently turned Carter down. Carter then helped Maya get back with Rick.
When Rick and Maya were dating again, Caroline maliciously made up female names starting with M to insult Maya. Such as Mariah (To Rick), Maria (To Maya), Mitsy (To Rick and Maya), Monica (To Rick), Melissa (To Rick), Marietta (To Carter), Mona (To Rick and Maya), and (after she took a break) Martha (To Rick).
Maya faced opposition in her attraction to Rick through Dayzee, who warned Maya to stay away out of genuine concern for her, and Caroline, who snarkily made sure to get Maya's name wrong in conversation. Still, Maya and Rick seemed to grow closer. Maya thought she was getting a shot at the big time when she received a call offering her a movie role, but when Maya got to the studio, she soon realized she was being asked to do porn, unaware that Caroline had set the whole thing up to make Maya look bad in Rick's eyes. Rick joked with Maya about her brush with "success", then offered Maya a legitimate position as a spokesmodel for Forrester's Hope for the Forrester line. Caroline was furious and taunted the inexperienced Maya, but Rick hired a professional model to be Maya's guide. Later, Caroline made points with Rick by arranging a fundraiser fashion show for her cancer foundation, in which Rick, Carter, and Marcus, along with Thomas Forrester and Oliver Jones, modeled sleepwear on the runway.
Bill's Interference[]
Maya could tell that Rick was still interested in her, but he wasn't breaking things off with Caroline, either. Maya finally told Rick that he needed to choose; Rick chose Maya, but reported that Caroline was ignoring his attempts to break up with her. One day, Maya walked into the office at Forrester to find Caroline's uncle, publishing magnate Bill Spencer Jr.. Bill had dug into Maya's past and found out that Maya was not to come within 500 feet of Jesse Graves, the father of her deceased baby, or Maya could be sent back to jail. Bill promised to arrange it if Maya didn't stay away from Rick. Maya stood up to Bill and unashamedly admitted her past with Jesse, a bad boy who carried guns and committed a crime that Maya was also sent to jail for.
Despite Bill's threats, Maya went to a club with Rick and was frustrated when Caroline tagged along with them. Maya ran into Jesse, who had cleaned up his act after his release from jail and wanted to reunite with Maya and their daughter. Maya had the difficult task of having to tell Jesse their daughter had died. She wished him well and hit the dance floor with Rick, unaware that Bill's assistant, Alison Montgomery, had snapped a photo of Maya and Jesse in conversation (Alison previously gave Jesse Graves a tall stack of cash and told him he'd get the other half after). Maya was horrified when Alison showed up on her doorstep with the photo which Alison promised would be delivered to the district attorney if Maya went near Rick again. Starting to feel the noose tightening, Maya admitted to Carter that Bill was blackmailing her. Maya also tells Rick about what Bill did, resulting in Rick ending his relationship with Caroline. Pamela Douglas befriended Rick's girlfriend Maya wonderfully happy.

Rick and Maya
Things seem to go well for Rick and Maya. Caroline meets up with Rafael, an aspiring film and television producer, and tells him all about her failed romance with Rick and what part she believes Maya played in the breakup. Caroline then secretly sets Maya up for one of the lead roles in Rafael's new web series, Room 8, with Carter. Room 8 is about two roommates who live together in an apartment and start to fantasize about each other. When Maya tells Rick about her getting cast in the show, he is excited for her.
Caroline secretly revises some of the scenes in Rafael's webisodes to make them steamier. Rick's excitement turns to shock and dismay when a clip from the show, showing a scene featuring Carter and Maya making out, premieres at his 4th of July party. Maya tries hard to explain what happened, but Rick is just too upset. Caroline gloats from a distance, happy that she seems to have succeeded in her latest scheme to break up Rick and Maya. However, Maya begins to wonder if someone on the show other then Rafael is pulling the strings behind the scenes. Then Carter and Maya play one of Caroline's steamiest episodes, and afterwards Carter can't help but fall in love with Maya and kisses her. He begins hoping that what they have onscreen translates to an off screen romance. His hopes end up dashed, however, when Maya lets him know that they are just portraying characters on a show, and that she loves Rick and is committed to him. She then goes to see Rick and realizes that he's just seen another steamy scene between her and Carter. The two end up talking, and Rick tells Maya that while he hates seeing her kissing Carter onscreen, he understands that it's a part of her job as an actress, and that he supports her. Maya appreciates Rick's support, but she is still left wondering who could be emailing the fantasy scenes to people. Later on, Caroline and Rafael create a more intimate episode, and Carter ends up falling for Maya again and kisses her. Maya, however, stays strong and tells him that she's with Rick and that Carter has to keep his feelings to himself. Caroline (behind scenes) had Rafael add a water bed to the next episode, and Maya admits to Carter that there has to be a boundary at some point. An unsure Maya isn't able to do the scene as written, which angers Rafael, who then gets into a fight with Caroline. Maya then walks in on their conversation and quickly realizes that Caroline was behind all of this. Carter comes in, shocked by what he has just found out while Maya and Caroline argue. However, Caroline's gig was up, and Rafael fired her. One of the guinea pigs went between Caroline's legs, which freaked her out, and Caroline jumped on the waterbed when her heels popped the bed, resulting in Caroline getting soaked. Rick, who had come to the set to visit Maya and chat with Rafael, later told Caroline that when it comes to her, he doesn't know what to believe anymore. Maya wanted Rick to show up to her Room 8 premier and Rick said he'd show up in a little bit. When Maya got there Dayzee and Marcus were their to support Marcus's brother Carter and Dayzee's best friend Maya. Maya hugged Dayzee. Pam who had befriended Maya hugs Maya and had a huge tub of popcorn. Pam told her she has lemon bars in her purse for when the lights dim. Rafael called Carter and Maya up so they could speak and congratulated them. Maya thanked Rick Forrester but still wondering where he was. Thomas and Thorne teamed up to kick Rick out (partly because of Thomas and Rick's bad history) and have Thorne be president and Thomas vice president. Thomas explained Thorne is someone he can trust. Thorne and Thomas confronted this to Eric and Rick, Thomas, Thorne, Eric, and Caroline had another meeting. Caroline babbled something about Hope For The Future. But Thomas and Thorne contradicted that even though the sales are up they need a profit. Eric let Rick stay president until further evidence of Hope For The Future Sales. Rick then realized he needs to see the screening. When the series was about to begin Maya wondered where Rick was. Rick came and asked Pam where Maya was. Pam was babbling about the movie and Rick made it obvious he didn't care. Pam told him Maya left. Maya ran up to her apartment sad while Carter followed her. Carter insisted he stayed the night on the couch where they made out and that's all that happened. Rafael stole Maya's phone so she couldn't track all of Rick's messages. Rafael in the morning at Dayzee's saw Carter come out in the same clothes as the day before. Rafael told this to Caroline. The Hope For The Future Line had no response but was a hit. Rick kept his position and Caroline blurted out Maya's secret knowing Rick hates secrets (Amber, Caroline, Maya). Rick didn't believe her until Maya told him it's true and Rick stormed off to Caroline's place and got in bed. After Rick left in the morning Maya had a few words with Caroline and won. Maya went to Rick and gave him her resignation from the company and the necklace he gave her. Caroline and Rick reconnected. Carter came to Maya's apartment because he heard about her designation and later proposed to her and after hesitating Maya said yes. Rick left work to check up on Maya. He knocked and when Maya opened the door, Rick noticed the ring on her finger, and Carter came to her protectively. Maya wanted to rejoin Forrester. Carter told this to Rick and Maya talked to him later in which Rick gladly rehired her. Caroline and Maya tried to make peace but Caroline still called her Myrna (after calling her Matilda) and Maya fired back calling her Carol.
Rick and Caroline were married at the Forrester Mansion on December 2, 2013 in an impromtu ceremony in front of family and friends.
Estranged Engagment and Maya's Meddling[]
In 2014, while waiting for Forrester's sabotaged freight elevator by Quinn Fuller, Oliver Jones told Maya he loves doing photography with her and that she's beautiful. The two kissed despite Maya's engagement to Carter and Maya had to go.
At the Bikini Bar, Oliver and Alexandria Forrester had lunch with Maya and Carter in the same restaurant. Aly ordered a hot green tea which Oliver accidentally spilled all over her hand and wiped up and then kissed her hand. Aly and Oliver began a secret relationship. Maya questions Oliver's attraction towards Maya while recording him on his phone. Oliver admitted she will help him stay in the company and she's smart and pretty enough so he'll put up with her. Oliver just left as Carter walked in and questioned Maya. Maya played the recording. Carter claims it does sound bad but it's taken out of context. Carter continues to stick up for Oliver.
At a business meeting at Forrester, Maya got jealous when Caroline was flirting with Rick as well as Aly with Oliver. Hope told Maya that she has lost energy in her photos and asked if anything was bothering her. While posing in a photo shoot with Oliver. Maya was very jealous looking and had flashbacks of her and Rick. Maya pointed out that Oliver will be on the inside because he's with a Forrester and she almost was when she was with Rick. Maya pointed out that Caroline was terrible towards her. Maya pointed out all of the expensive things the Forrester's have. Oliver asked her if she was angry about their relationship or jealous. Maya left and entered the steam room when Rick was in there alone and massaged his back for him. Rick initially thought it was Caroline but was shocked when he turned around and it was Maya. Rick told Caroline he wasn't alone in the steam room. Caroline wondered who would be in Rick in the steam room and then thought of...Myrna. Maya came and played them the recording of Oliver talking about Aly. Caroline was ticked off at Maya but Rick was astonished at Oliver. Rick and Caroline talked it over and Caroline understood Oliver's side. Rick confronted Aly after their medieval night, and played the recording questioning his intentions. Oliver told them that he genuinely like Aly. They decided not to play it unless they have to for Aly's sake. Rick kept his eye on Oliver. Oliver and Maya got in an argument about this. Oliver told this to Aly who didn't know if she could trust him anymore. Rick told Carter that Maya hit on him in the steam room. Carter asked Maya who admit it. Carter was angry and broke up with Maya. Oliver decided to tell Aly himself about the recording. Aly was heartbroken and didn't know if he was lying to her like before. Aly told Pam and Pam was a little more understanding than Aly and Aly, Charlie, and Oliver all went to Medieval night together. Aly was still sad and not enjoying the show. Oliver snuck in because the show didn't have a yellow knight so Oliver put on the costume and went on the horse. He threw Aly a carnation and lifted up his helmet and they all realized he was Oliver. Oliver clumsily had to fight the other knight and fell down. Aly ran down and told the knight not to hurt him. They asked for the reason and Aly said love. Oliver and Aly remained together and the ghost of Darla gave Oliver a carnation to give to Aly.
Exposing CaRidge affair[]
Maya noticed that Caroline and Ridge Forrester were working closely together on a couture line behind closed doors not letting anybody in, hoping there was something more. She told Rick her suspicions, but he had faith in Caroline and denied it. Maya tried to bring up the memories they shared, but Rick continued to stay faithful to Caroline. Ever since Bill dumped Ridge into the Persian Gulf during an altercation at Bill and Brooke's wedding attempt, Ridge lost his ability to draw. He could coarse Caroline's hand and draw perfectly though. Caroline began getting frustrated with Ridge's perfectionist ways and asked why couldn't he do it himself but realized he can't. He admit to it and made Caroline promise that she wouldn't tell anybody, not even Rick. Katie walks in on them working closely, and they explain their partnership. Katie begins to feel uncomfortable and discusses this with Rick, who is also secretly a bit uncomfortable. Rick got angry that Ridge is taking credit for Caroline's designs, but Caroline insisted she's happy to help him. Rick brought this up to Eric, who decided to resign from CEO and will give his position to either Rick or Ridge. He asked Caroline who he should give it to but she didn't have an answer. Caroline expressed her romantic feelings to Ridge, who admitted he had a crush on her too and kissed her. However, Caroline ended up feeling guilty about the kiss because of her marriage to Rick and knowing how much he hates Ridge.
Maya confronted Rick about her accusations and although he was nervous, he believed in Caroline. Maya also brought this up to Ridge's fiance, Katie Logan. Eric decided to step down from his CEO position and give it to either of his two sons, Rick or Ridge. At the Forrester meeting, Eric was going to give the position to Ridge because he's a designer when Maya blurted out that he's having an affair with Caroline. This was shocking, and Maya asked Caroline to just simply say no if it's not. Caroline began crying and confessed to Rick about the attraction between her and Ridge. Rick felt betrayed and rushed off in a rage. Maya arrived at Brooke's cabin to see Rick angry and violent and upset. Rick took his ring off and said his marriage to Caroline was over. Rick thanked her for informing him. Maya comforted him, told him that she never stopped loving him, and the two began making out on the couch which resulted in them making love. Caroline stopped by Brooke's mansion the next day to explain things. Maya appeared by the door wearing nothing but a bathrobe. Caroline was upset over what she was seeing, and Rick said he wanted a quick divorce and for her to leave town. Maya dropped Caroline's wedding ring on the carpet and Caroline picked it up and pleaded with Rick to put it back on, but he refused. Eric called Rick wanting to talk, but Rick felt betrayed by him. Rick then told Maya he wanted to leave town to get a fresh start. Eric stopped over and granted Rick the CEO position. Rick didn't want to be that naive and was heartbroken and turned him down. Eric left the papers there for him to think about it. Maya convinced Rick to run Forrester with her, telling him that he had what it took to run the company and that she believed in him. When Carter tries to tell Rick that Maya's intentions with him may not be good, Rick disregards Carter's advice and warnings, feeling that Carter's loyalty is to Ridge and not to Forrester Creations. Rick made Maya lead model for HFTF. Rick was very displeased that the fashion show went well because he priced the cost of the dresses so high that nobody would buy them. Eric was furious with him that he did that. Eric told him he was being immature and Rick shot back that he doesn't know how Eric could still hire all his exes to work with him. Eric gave Rick an ultimatum that he can have the CEO position if he goes back to Caroline. Rick decided to try to patch things back up with Caroline. At first she was very hesitant and confused but eventually she agreed after she let Ridge go back to Katie. Rick broke the news to Maya who was angry and heartbroken and upset. Rick tried to explain to her that he's doing this for them, and that Caroline's only temporary for the position. Maya painfully agreed. Eric suggested Ridge and Caroline should be a team again which made Rick jealous but he agreed that this would be a good idea. Rick gave Maya Steffy Forrester's old apartment which she loved. It had the bathtub, Jackie Payne, installed when she lived there, and Rick and Maya tried it out together, making out. Caroline called Rick and Rick made an excuse claiming he was up to his next in hot water with work.
Caroline wanted to talk to Ivy Forrester at the Mansion. Caroline explained she's happy she got Rick back but she is still nervous about their relationship. Ivy supported Caroline until she got a call from a friend to check out his/her new apartment. Ivy arrived at the apartments and saw Rick kissing Maya. Rick got back to the Forrester Mansion and Ivy confronted him about what she saw. Rick claimed it was just a goodbye kiss but Ivy didn't believe it. Rick insisted Ivy didn't say anything or else she's fired. Caroline called from the cabin to the main house and asked if Rick's was there and Rick answered. Ivy confronted Maya at her apartment the next day about what she saw. Maya tried to pretend Rick is committed to Caroline and what they had was real and they will run the company. Rick and Maya both convinced Ivy to keep her mouth shut.
Maya moves in[]
Eric signed the paper to give Rick irrevocable control. Rick was preaching to everybody in the meeting how he can do this for a year while Eric is away, with the help of a loyal woman by his side. Caroline thought Rick was talking about her when Rick called Maya in an announced that he is still with Maya.
Rick and Maya moved into the Forrester Mansion while Eric was briefly away and Maya kicked Ivy and Aly out for a day to have some privacy. Rick also took down Stephanie's portrait and hung up a portrait of Maya. Maya was a little nervous thinking how people would react but Rick insisted. The Forresters were offended by Rick's actions especially Stephanie's sister, Pamela Douglas. Ivy and Aly agreed that Rick's just doing this to get back at Caroline and that he still loves her.
Brooke returned to L.A. from Milan only to find Maya home in Brooke's lingerie from the Brooke's Bedroom line. Maya welcomed her in and put a red robe on. Brooke was shocked to see Maya's portrait on the wall in place of Stephanie's. Brooke was appalled and uninformed. Maya stated it's only temporary until Eric comes back. Maya questioned if Rick has told her what's going on and Brooke denied it. Maya stated Caroline turned to someones else. Brooke was astonished and at first she wanted Rick to tell her the story but then she blurted out it was Ridge. Maya went up stairs to change and tried to be polite with Brooke.
Rick filed divorce papers and wanted to get rid of Stephanie's gun too. The lawyer forgot to take it with him at Forrester, so Rick took a stroll with it, and found Caroline and Ridge on top of each other, making out, in an office. Rick cracked open the door and fired gun shots at the wall. Ridge sprung up and Rick questioned both of them. Ridge took the gun away from Rick and emptied the bullets. Pam, Charlie, and Carter rushed over hearing gun shots. They were surprised to find out that Rick shot them. Rick still doesn't want Ridge with his wife, but Ridge stated that he doesn't want her anymore. Ridge was going to call Bradley Baker to file a report but Caroline convinced him otherwise. Rick returned to the Forrester Mansion to see his mother, Brooke, back talking to Maya. Maya informed Brooke about Caroline and Ridge's affair. Rick stated gunshots were shot at the office. Brooke and Maya were shocked. Rick stated he shot them at Ridge and Caroline. Brooke called Ridge and was concerned. Brooke was on Rick's side, shocked about Ridge and Caroline's affair. Ridge stated they'll have this conversation another time. Caroline signed the divorce papers without even reading them over. Ridge suggested running away with her and starting their own company.
Bad Blood and Maya's Mystery Revealed[]
In 2015, Maya's little sister, Nicole Avant, shows up at Forrester Creations looking for her. The two haven't seen each other in a long time and Nicole is eager to reconnect with her sister. But Maya seems tensed and nervous every time she sees Nicole around. Rick then offers that Nicole stay at the mansion after she had a falling out with her roommate. Nicole accepts the offer, but Maya still seems unsure. Nicole admits to Maya that she knows Maya's secret and that she hasn't told Rick. Maya confronts Nicole about what she has over her saying she hasn't done anything wrong and that Rick knows everything about her. Nicole then reveals that Maya's real name is Myron and she is actually Nicole's brother, revealing that Maya is transgender. Nicole stated she found Maya's birth certificate tucked away that said Myron Avant. She at first assumed her parents lost a baby, but realized it had Maya's birthdate and said the gender was male. Maya admitted she was born male, but from childhood felt like she was supposed to be a female and crossed over to female so that her outside could match her inside. After that she ran away and her parents didn't mention anything of her. Nicole questioned her baby. Maya explained that the child she raised was the daughter of Jesse Graves and the biological mother left. After Maya was sent to jail, the baby was sent to a foster home and she died in a car accident. Nicole stated she didn't come to L.A. to blackmail her or cause trouble. She just wants to get to know her sister, who is kicking her out. Maya agrees to tell Rick if/when he proposes. Maya made Nicole promise not to tell anybody until she told Rick herself. Rick noticed the tension between Maya and Nicole and explained he allowed Nicole to move in for them to get closer. If they can't get along, they'd help her move into an apartment. Nicole asked Maya if she wanted her to leave and Maya asked her to stay.
Nicole saw Oliver doing a photo shoot of models and asked him if he'd give her a shot at being one but Oliver stated she has to get permission from Rick or Maya. Nicole arrived at Rick's office to see Maya who was talking with Carter who assured her he's there for her. Maya was nervous that Nicole might slip something about her secret to Carter. Nicole stated this and demanded an audition as one of Forrester's models. Carter stopped by Oliver's office and Oliver brought up Maya's sister, Nicole, who wanted to be a model but is a college student. Carter confided in him that she dropped out of UCLA. Carter realized that's why Nicole went to see Maya. Carter overheard Maya and Nicole talking about Maya's secret she's not telling Rick and Nicole blurted out that Maya was born a male. After Nicole left, Carter entered Rick's office to talk to Maya. Carter was furious at Maya since they've been involved. Maya apologized and defended herself and convinced Carter to keep it a secret from Rick and that she'll tell him when he proposes. Rick arrived asking about the tension and Carter almost slipped but informed Rick that he doesn't know everything about Maya. Maya took some pills with water in Rick's office. Maya accidentally knocked her bag off the table with her pills in it and Rick picked it up discovering estrogen pills and questioned her why she'd need to take them. Maya claimed it helps with regulation. Wyatt Spencer, Liam Spencer, and Ivy Forrester were trying to find another way to remove Rick from power. Wyatt heard Nicole and Maya discussing a huge secret that could affect Rick and the company. Wyatt casually approaches Nicole and starts a conversation with her. Nicole is delighted and when Wyatt asks questions about Rick and Maya, he sees Nicole tense up. Nicole claims to have to be somewhere as an excuse. Nicole tells Maya she really likes Wyatt and that he's handsome and nice.
Wyatt purposely runs into Nicole again, and promises her a position as a jewelry model which she gladly accepts, making Maya a little thoughtful. Wyatt brings Nicole to his beach house and Nicole puts on upbeat dance music and convinces Wyatt to make some margaritas. Wyatt keeps on insisting confidence and they should just be open with each other without any secrets. Wyatt admits he never knew he was a Spencer and his mother kept it from him all these years, claiming his father was dead. As Wyatt keeps questioning Nicole about Maya and Rick, she begins to get a little curious why and he states he works at Forrester and wants to know his boss well to do his best. Nicole tells Wyatt she's called a cab to pick her up when Wyatt kisses her telling her he wants her to stay. Wyatt takes Nicole on the Spencer jet on a trip to San Francisco. Wyatt keeps pressing Nicole after she states she has a secret. She begins to say "Maya is..." Wyatt questions "Maya?" and Nicole backsaway. Nicole meets up with Carter being very enthusiastic about hanging out with one of Bill Spencer's sons on a jet. When Nicole brings up Maya's secret, Carter asks her if she told Wyatt about Maya, when Maya arrives. Nicole states she would never tell Wyatt, but Wyatt told her his Spencer family secret. Maya questions that and Nicole states she didn't realize Wyatt was a Spencer.
When Maya leaves her bag behind in Rick's Office, Pam and Charlie discover her estrogen pills and wonder why Maya is taking them. Charlie states to Pam the only reason Maya would be taking estrogen is because she's transgender. Maya believes that soon Rick is going to propose to her when he suggests that they take a trip to the Forrester's cabin, Big Bear Cabin.
After Brooke and Eric keep favoring Rick over his position, Ridge decides to quit, which hurts Eric because he's his son and greatest asset to Forrester. Ridge tells Carter he quit and just as Ridge is running out the door, Carter stops him to tell him something important. Carter blurts out to Ridge that Maya is transgender. Ridge is shocked and actually feels bad for Rick. Ridge asks for his job back and then tells Eric and Brooke who Maya really is. Eric and Brooke are amazed and Eric says he wouldn't let Ridge humiliate Rick like that. Brooke appoints herself the one to tell Rick. Brooke confronts Maya about her and Rick's honesty and her not being who she really is. Brooke calls her Myron and states she knows. Maya is devastated and asks who told Brooke and she is shocked to hear it was Ridge. Maya states she'll tell Rick when he proposes which they agree they both know is soon. Brooke insists Maya not humiliate Rick like that, down on one knee, to tell him. Maya insists she won't accept unless he accepts all of her.
Rick takes Maya up to Big Bear Cabin. Maya is amazed at the estate she's heard so many stories from. Rick proposes to Maya. Maya states she'd love to accept but she has to tell him something first, about her past. Rick keeps insisting the past doesn't matter but Maya insists it does. Rick takes her to bed instead but after a while Maya keeps persisting. They walk back to the couch with champagne and Maya states she came to L.A. because she needed to find a specific doctor who they didn't have in her town, and she brings up the estrogen pills. Rick thought it was a birth defect but Maya explains her birth certificate has a boys name on it...and her parents raised her as a boy. Maya explains she was born a male and transitioned into a woman. Rick is upset and shocked at first but still understanding. Maya also explains Nicole and Carter know, and Carter told Ridge who told Brooke and Eric and Brooke motivated her to tell him even though she was eventually going to. Rick is angry that Ridge knew and the secret is the joke of Forrester Creations. He makes it clear he still loves her when talking to Brooke on the phone. Rick's phone buzzes and he sees a Forrester notification of Spencer Publication's article about Rick & Maya and Maya being transgender. Maya seems confused at first but then sees his phone. Rick calls Eric who says he already knows. Rick calls Bill furiously. Rick is deeply upset with the publications and calls it an embarrassment. Maya is upset that he sees her as an embarrassment and grabs her bag and gets in the car. Rick pounds on the car trying to talk to Maya but she drives off. Rick gets in his car and races after her on the roadside. Rick calls Maya from his car and Maya ignores him. He calls her again and she picks up crying. Rick apologizes and asks for her to pull over. Maya asks him if he still loves her and wants to be her husband. The call ends. Rick crashes his car off the road. Maya thinks Rick is done with her and moves into her old apartment at Dayzee's. Maya is on a laptop typing her resignation letter to Forrester Creations, sending it. Nicole arrives at her apartment. Nicole explains she told Wyatt and Maya was a little upset but forgave her. Nicole asks Maya if Rick walked away from her and she said she walked away from him. Rick arrives safely to the Forrester Mansion. Ridge sneaks up to his room and rubs the resignation in his face.
Nicole states she needs to speak to Rick privately. Rick explains he couldn't get the chance to answer because his car crashed. Nicole tells him that Maya's at her old apartment at Dayzee's. Rick dresses up as a waiter in the same tie dye shirt asking Maya for her order. Rick explains the story to Maya and that he still loves her. Maya claims she was leaving town but Rick convinces her to stay while he had a business meeting to go to. Rick and Eric start to worry that Steffy, Ridge, and Liam are going to use Ridge's, Steffy's, Thomas's, and Bill's shares to take over Forrester Creations. Rick comes to Bill to make a business proposition. Rick tries convincing Bill to use his shares to his and Eric's advantage and he'll have more control around the company. In the middle of the meeting in Rick's office, Bill barges in explaining their deal and his predictament. Bill explains he doesn't like the way Ridge treats him. Bill asks Ridge and Rick to convince him why he should take their side. Bill commends Liam for protecting Caroline and Ivy. Ultimately, Bill choses to side with Rick under one condition, Maya, the face of Forrester Creations, has to go. Rick punches Bill and withdraws from the deal. Ridge becomes the new CEO with Steffy president and Liam vice president. Rick tells Maya the news and that all that matters is that they're still together.
Maya arrives at the Forrester Mansion for the first time since the situation. Rick sits down with drinks and talks with her, encouraging her to move back in. Maya is nervous at first but Rick charms by assuring how deep their relationship is into moving back in. Ridge barges in, in the middle of their kiss, to state that Forrester needs her. Maya's supporters online believe that Forrester Creations forced her to leave the company. Ridge asked her to come back and offered her the lead model position. Maya stated she'd love to work as lead model at Forrester again under one condition, that Rick can come back too. Rick was put in charge of International. Caroline gave Maya a heartfelt apology as they both got emotional and sorted out their differences, making peace.
Nicole showed up with Zende Dominguez at the Fourth of July party at the Forrester Mansion. Maya told Nicole in private how attractive Zende is and how she's happy for her. While Maya and Nicole were talking, they were surprised to see their mother, Vivienne Avant, standing at the door. Maya, Rick, and Nicole stepped outside to talk. Rick introduces himself to her. Vivienne told Nicole she's taking her home. Nicole resisted and Vivienne stated she doesn't want her sister to brainwash her.
Rick let the three Avant women into the guest house to hash it out. Vivienne thought Nicole staying with Maya with people who run a clothing company wasn't healthy. Vivienne was unhappy to hear that Nicole dropped out of UCLA but wasn't surprised. Nicole stated she's doing well living with Maya. Vivienne stated their father sent her and that he never laid a hand on either of them. Maya stated she's not afraid of their father anymore. Vivienne stated Maya broke her father's heart. Nicole stood up for Maya stating she's proud of Maya. Vivienne questioned why she wouldn't wanna come back with her parents who love her. Nicole stated Maya loves her and whenever she is in the wrong, Maya will forgive her. Nicole stated she's staying if it's all right with Maya. Maya insisted to Vivienne that Nicole stays. Maya stated she won't throw Nicole out the way her parents did to her. Vivienne stated there's nothing worse than losing a child and she's sorry about the baby Maya lost. Vivienne stated she saw the picture in the paper. Maya informed her about the biological mother leaving and Jesse being the father. Vivienne left stating she's learned to take care of herself too.
Caroline, Ridge, Steffy, Rick and Maya held another meeting for Forrester's new line, California Freedom which Aly attended. Aly was being very hostile towards Steffy and Maya for embracing their sexuality the way Maya and Rick treated her and upset that Ridge allowed a new line involving lingerie and swimsuits. Maya genuinely apologized for the past. Aly stated "No wonder. Maya doesn't wanna talk about the past." Maya became worried but Rick comforted her.
Maya entered Ridge's office in the middle of Nicole and Zende's conversation and told Zende that Nicole had a fun time with him at the Fourth of July party. Zende left and Nicole assured Maya she will stay in Los Angeles with Maya no matter what their parents say. Nicole got a call from Vivienne asking her to meet her at the coffee shop down the street.
Maya entered her home with much surprise to see her mother. Her father, Julius Avant walked over much to Maya's shock. Julius stated he came back for his little girl and hugged Maya. Maya thought he meant Nicole when Julius stated that's what he's supposed to call her. Maya assured her parents Nicole is safe living with her and Rick. Julius went into being a parent and never feeling easy about a child's well-being. Maya told her parents that they didn't come her for here, they want to rescue Nicole. Julius asked about Rick and Vivienne stated she met him briefly. Maya added that he put up that picture of her. Julius explained that the librarian always showed him pictures of Maya and told him how successful she's doing. Vivienne stated she's the only one he'd talk to about you. Julius said he hears Maya's name in church, at the agency when he worked there. Maya questioned if he got fired from the limousine agency. Julius explained he was a joke. Vivienne said he covered his name plate. Julius said he put out that his son, Myron, was dead. Maya asked if that's what he wished. Julius denied that. Maya stated if they just came to see her face, they can leave. But if they want more, they have to accept her for who she is. Julius and Vivienne announced they are leaving. Maya sat down feeling sad when Julius said "Stand up, Maya." Maya stood up and Julius promised her he will try to accept her and they hugged.
Maya is the lead model for the California Freedom fashion show in which her parents attend. Vivienne is proud and happy for her daughter while Julius hides his contempt. Towards the end of the fashion show, Rick gets down on one knee and proposes to Maya in which she happily agrees. Rick and Maya are both very sorry to hear that the night after the fashion show, that Aly has died and they both attend her funeral.
Rick and Maya arrange to get married at the Forrester Mansion in front of their friends and family. Bridget returns to Los Angeles to attend the wedding and wish Rick good luck. Katie and Bill walk in and Rick demands that he can't stay but Bill requests to stay and apologize to Maya. Rick, Katie, and Bill go upstairs so to see Maya which upsets her. Bill states he's not sorry about the profit but maybe later she can put her full story in a magazine. Maya allows Bill and Katie to attend the wedding. Just before Maya is about to walk down the staircase, she hears her parents bickering. Julius repeatedly expresses his disgust and intolerance for Maya by using words like "freak" and "freakshow" and discriminating transgender people. Maya is heartbroken and runs back up to her room and starts to cry. Nicole runs up to go get her only to find her crying. Nicole supports Maya and encourages her to forget about their dad for this one day and focus on her and Rick. Maya decides to continue the ceremony. Maya walks down the stairs and walks to up to rick with both of her parents. The ceremony starts but Maya pauses it because one person of their friends and family can't accept her, her father. Maya demands to speak with Julius and they publically bicker. Maya expresses her distress while Julius lashes back with intolerant insults. Julius starts to cry and explains his father, Myron Avant, a hard working man, gave him a check before he died because he felt his namesake disowned him. Rick stands by Maya but Julius responds by asking Rick if how he feels about having a woman no other man wants. Vivienne steps in and speaks her mind to Julius, explaining how wrong he is. Julius admits he's leaving but Vivienne insists on staying. Julius leaves and Vivienne apologizes for all the wrong she has also done to Maya. Vivienne tells Maya how proud she is to be her mother and they hug. Maya decides to move forward with the ceremony and Rick and Maya say their vows and marry on August 12, 2015.
Surrogacy via Nicole[]
Months later, Rick and Maya decided to settle down and have a baby. Rick considered adopting but Maya really wanted their baby to have Avant-Forrester blood in its body so that's where she came up with the idea to have a baby via a surrogate. There was but one person Maya considered to ask to carry their child... Nicole Avant. When Maya asked Nicole if she would be willing to carry her and Rick's baby for them, she accepted the task because it would be her way of giving back and thanking her for all the times she Maya was there for her. Maya and Rick were more than thrilled that Nicole tells them she'll have their baby for them but have given her beyond every opportunity to say no and back out of it but Nicole refuses to say no to Maya.
Weeks later Vivienne and Julius return to town because they both agreed for Julius to give Maya the good news that he'd done some soul searching and that he's ready to accept his transgender daughter, Maya. Everything went downhill once Maya announced to her parents that she was having a baby. Julius, knowing Maya can't get pregnant, wondered who was going to carry her and Rick's baby. Maya told him that Nicole agreed to carry the child, much to Julius' dismay. Julius believes what Maya is asking Nicole to do is sick. He even went so far as to accuse Maya of taking advantage of Nicole, seemingly knowing that Nicole would never say no to Maya because Nicole is one of those people who wants to make everyone happy, especially her sister. Nicole and Julius were at war about this but she held her own. Nicole was determined to have their baby with or without Julius' and Viv's approval since Rick, Maya, and Nicole are all adults anyway.
Nicole's boyfriend, Zende, was shocked when she tells him Maya asked her to be their surrogate but was supportive of her decision and loves that Nicole would give Maya and Rick such a beautiful gift. But they still had their concerns. Julius went to see Zende at Forrester Creations and tried but failed to talk Zende into giving Nicole an ultimatum. Nicole either tells Maya to find somebody else to have their baby or he doesn't want to be her boyfriend. Zende tells Julius what everybody else is trying to get through to him, that it's Nicole's decision and hers only. Maya and Rick still have given Nicole every right to say no and change her mind, Nicole still refuses to turn back on her agreement to have their baby and especially won't do so on her parents' account. She has been warned by a nurse at the clinic that she might be attached to the baby when it's Rick and Maya's. Nicole is fully aware of the risks and is even willing to risk her relationship with Zende for their baby. But Nicole asks Zende if she has their baby, are they over? Zende commits his relationship with Nicole. Julius is angry that Zende refuses to coerse Nicole into not having their baby and hanging their relationship over their head because again he tells Julius it's her decision.
Vivienne and Julius go back to their apartment in Los Angeles where Julius had been praying that Nicole decides against having Rick and Maya's baby but to no avail. Viv is starting to agree with Julius' way of thinking but there is no need to be so brutal about it! The two agree to hold a meeting with Rick's parents about what to do about Nicole being pregnant with Rick and Maya's child. In the middle of the meeting they get a phone call notifying Julius and Vivienne that Zende, Rick, Maya, and Nicole are at the clinic prepping Nicole for pregnancy. Julius and Vivienne race down there demanding it gets called off. Nicole and Maya were surprised that Vivienne was weighing in her opinion, agreeing with Julius. But Nicole and Maya disagree with Julius and he, having failed to convince her against getting pregnant, storms away and walks off with Viv. Nicole continues on with it. The nurse later informs Nicole that she is indeed pregnant.
Maya felt caught in the middle when Ridge put Stephanie's portrait back up at the mansion and Rick responded by moving Maya and Nicole to Brooke's, where Maya got to know Rick's visiting sister, Bridget Forrester. Hearing Ridge had a secret vasectomy, Maya helped Rick search Ridge's office for more secrets but came up empty. Maya laid into Zende after he dumped Nicole for her childhood friend, Sasha Thompson, then reeled to learn Sasha was really her half-sister through Julius cheating on Vivienne long ago.
Birth of Lizzy[]
Maya welcomed baby Elizabeth, reluctantly placing her in Julius' arms to keep the peace. Then Sasha announced being pregnant by Zende just as he reunited with Nicole, so Maya dared Sasha to take a pregnancy test, discovering later that Sasha faked a positive result. Maya took part in a family meeting Julius called to implore his loved ones to forgive each other for their transgressions and later happily attended little "Lizzy"'s christening, which included Sasha. Months later, Maya could barely contain her joy when she got a chance to sing the national anthem at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game courtesy of Rick.
Maya joined Rick in boycotting Eric's wedding to Quinn Fuller, a woman with a criminal past, but felt guilty afterwards, especially when an enraged Eric collapsed from a brain hemorrhage. Afterwards, Maya and Rick asked Nicole if she'd carry a second baby for them; Maya felt bad when Nicole ultimately declined, and more so because Nicole's near-acceptance had caused Zende to sleep with Sasha again. With Quinn acting as interim CEO at Eric's instruction, Maya balked at having to model Quinn's jewelry alongside Sasha at a fashion show, but sucked it up for the good of the company. Later, Maya shared Rick's anger that he was denied sharing a co-CEO position with Ridge's daughter, Steffy Forrester, but happily helped Zende win Nicole over with an extravagant horse-and-carriage proposal, then served as Nicole's maid of honor at her wedding. Maya also attended a party for Steffy and her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Liam Spencer, who were marrying in Australia; Maya hungrily asked Rick for details when Eric checked in from Down Under.
Maya and Rick hitched a ride to Paris with the honeymooning Brooke and Bill as Rick had business fires to put out and Maya was scheduled for an important photo shoot. The distracted Maya worried about Lizzy and felt bad for asking Nicole and Zende to sit with her, but Maya decided to extend her trip when she was asked to take part in a career-boosting modeling gig in other European locales. Upon returning, Maya couldn't understand Nicole's coldness until she learned Nicole had been told it wasn't likely she could have another baby. Maya was sure Nicole would sign Lizzy's new adoption papers since the initial ones contained a clerical error; when Nicole hesitated and considered keeping Lizzy, Maya was angry but came to empathize with her sister. Despite Julius badgering Nicole to tear up the papers and his insistence that Maya wasn't meant to be a mother, Maya breathed a sigh of relief when Nicole eventually finalized Lizzy's adoption.
Maya modeled alongside Nicole, Rick, and Carter for a Forrester calendar teasing a swimsuit fashion show in Monte Carlo, where she represented Forrester in a fashion duel with rival design house Spectra Fashions. Maya celebrated at a club, where she was accosted by a bigot who harassed her about being transgender; grateful that Zende stood up for her, Maya decided not to tell Rick or Nicole about the incident. Later, after hearing Lizzy call Nicole instead of her, Maya arranged to have Nicole and Zende work at Forrester International in Paris to put distance between Nicole and Lizzy. Maya was thrilled when Nicole visited at Thanksgiving and spent the holiday with her and their parents at the Forrester's Thanksgiving feast.
Split from Rick[]
In early 2018, Maya and Rick made the decision to pursue higher work at Forrester International, in Paris, to where Zende and Nicole also reside. During this time, Maya and Rick suffered from relationship problems, and, eventually, decided to get a divorce. Maya returned to Los Angeles alone, whereas Rick remained in Paris.
